The CL breaks new ground for the Acura line — it is the first Acura model to be designed and manufactured in the U.S. Featuring sweeping, ‘symphonic’ cockpit layout and stylish rear lights, the designers were able to create a coupe that radiates sportiness, prestige and refinement. While produced locally, the CL meets the high expectations of import buyers — both the 2.2-liter four and the 3.0-liter VTEC V6 engines are produced at an award-winning engine plant, while the assembly of the car is done in the first U.S. plant to use water-borne paint and laser welding. What is exceptional about the CL is its precision fit (there’s virtually no gap in the body panels) and innovative styling (a rakishly angled headlights frame the ‘neoclassic’ front grille, while the rear is decidely avant-garde). To keep the rear appearance smooth and clean, the CL uses one-piece, 7-function taillights, which when unlit appear all red for bold visual appeal. There is no keyhole on the trunk; instead, the trunk is opened via remote or by a release in the cockpit.
